Limey (11:01:20 AM) : damn damn damn
Yankee (11:05:54 AM) : what?
Limey (11:07:05 AM) : only just found out that FvJ is also out here today, and I wanna see it but I doubt i'll get in. the cinema has tried to charge me adult price before, but I bet when I actually want them to they'll twig that i'm not old enough straight away
Yankee (11:07:32 AM) : do you look that young?
Limey (11:08:05 AM) : no, but I don't think I look 18 to anyone with their wits about em
Yankee (11:09:17 AM) : do the movie theater employees in your country have their wits about them? Here, they are usually too young or too stupid themselves to notice so long as you don't have a baby face.
Limey (11:10:44 AM) : lol, it depends. sometimes they don't, sometimes they do. and, we get proof of age cards when we hit 16, to use on buses and stuff (ya know, so they don't charge as adult, and we have proof we're not adult), and they know this. they'll probably ask to see them
Limey (11:11:30 AM) : so I have no way of making em think i'm 18, but I have a card that has my birthday on it, proving i'm 16 :)
Yankee (11:11:36 AM) : just say you forgot it and you are too far from home to retrieve it. con them, work your charm. ;-)
Limey (11:13:11 AM) : hehe, just blind em with speed or somethin. "*holds ticket* you sure you're 18?" "yep *grabs ticket* bye!"
Yankee (11:13:33 AM) : BTW, I think the first ripple of positive action from 28 Days [Later] has taken effect (uh, no pun intended). :-)
Yankee (11:14:23 AM) : Hammer films has just been resurrected and they will put out a few new low-budget horror films in the next five years. :-)
Yankee (11:15:08 AM) : It HAS to be because of the success of 28 Days [Later]. People now have a bigger eye towards brit horror. And Hammer used to be the best.
Yankee (11:15:55 AM) : the only thing is that Hammer was never known for its gore(which is ok for me), but they always had great ideas and good stories
Limey (11:16:14 AM) : tis cool, but there'll be no Peter Cushing :(
Yankee (11:17:17 AM) : yeah, that's too bad. wouldn't it be cool though if they can get Christopher Lee to appear in something?
Yankee (11:17:39 AM) : they probably can't afford him now thanks to Star Wars and Lord of the Rings.
Yankee (11:18:23 AM) : BUT, Christopher has always been sentimental, he might just do it because it's Hammer and it would help them a lot in ticket sales I would think.
Yankee (11:18:41 AM) : without Hammer, he wouldn't have been shit.
Limey (11:19:48 AM) : lol, well, i'm speaking for myself here, I'd always agree to do 'lower' stuff. it's just greed for money that stops ppl doing cheaper stuff
Yankee (11:20:58 AM) : i know, but the other end of that is having the rep of working cheap makes it harder to land those big jobs. In this particular case he would do OK because studios would understand his involvement as being loyalty.
Yankee (11:21:06 AM) : http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/art-main.html?2003-08/14/09.00.film (Edit: Article about the return of Hammer Horror Films)
Limey (11:22:03 AM) : too bad aussies are involved :-D
Yankee (11:22:09 AM) : hhh
Limey (11:23:45 AM) : I just hope it doesn't lead to Brit stuff becoming 'mainstream'. I can just envisioned piece-of-shit after piece-of-shit will be put out by the ppl who usually only put out the really good stuff (28 days later, dog soldiers, etc) cos they're tryin to take advantage of it all
Yankee (11:26:51 AM) : right
Limey (11:32:18 AM) : thinking of Chris Lee, and his recent success...I think his Hammer films were actually better. I don't like the LOTR movies, and tho I like Star Wars Ep II, none of em are that great
Yankee (2:36:43 PM) : http://www.aint-it-cool-news.com/display.cgi?id=15864 (Edit: Review about Jeepers Creepers 2 from Ain't it Cool News)
Limey (2:39:02 PM) : definitely looking forward to it here. I may be alone in my hopes, but I'd actually really like the movies to be a proper horror movie series, not the modern 'stop at 3' thing. The Creeper would make for a good franchise serial killer/monster
Yankee (2:40:03 PM) : I agree
Yankee (2:40:23 PM) : actually for this web page, those were pretty good reviews. these guys hate everything
Yankee (2:40:43 PM) : even the negative ones had good things to say about jeepers 2
Yankee (2:40:55 PM) : I read LOTS of good things about Freddy vs Jason though
Yankee (2:41:11 PM) : what is odd though is what these two movies hold in common....
Yankee (2:41:42 PM) : that the main characters and story as a whole are really good but the victims, supporting characters, etc are poorly done.
Yankee (2:42:51 PM) : but at least in Freddy vs Jason's case, Jason movies ALWAYS had lousy characters. The exceptions are Tommy and his sister, Jason's Mom and maybe the girl who survived the first and died in the beginning of the second
Yankee (2:43:22 PM) : even Kevin Bacon, who can act (usually), didn't do a great job on Friday the 13th
Yankee (2:43:46 PM) : so there is a consistency to the comments about FvsJ
Limey (2:44:01 PM) : lol, that's the way of horror movies. but, weirdly, I actually had more respect for the stock characters of 80's horror than stock characters of stuff these days
Limey (2:44:32 PM) : I really hate the characters you see popping up in everything these days. I preferred the idiots making the wrong moves to jive talkin busta rhymes
Yankee (2:44:59 PM) : i agree. we talked about that before
Yankee (2:46:03 PM) : having that RnB singer in FvsJ is just more of that stupid "lets bring in useless rab/RnB people into horror and action movies.
Yankee (2:47:06 PM) : the only times it ever really worked was Ice-T, LL Cool J, and Will Smith
Yankee (2:47:41 PM) : and naturally the singer in Freddy vs Jason is the one who supposedly does the worse acting in it. who cares if she is hot?
Yankee (2:49:54 PM) : one definitely good thing about FvsJ......
Yankee (2:50:38 PM) : in not one review did I see ANY comments good or bad about the new Jason. That's a great sign that he did a great job at being Jason. Period.
Yankee (2:50:57 PM) : he did it so well that no one noticed a difference
Limey (2:51:21 PM) : 1) guess they're just ignoring actual horror fans and catering for the general public. but what really annoys me is that they don't have any respect for the killers anymore. it used to be that the other character weren't better than the killers. they scraped thru by the skin of their teeth, complete luck that they found out how to get rid of em and manage to do it. now it's made out that the ppl are better than the killers, that they can beat them 2)well, that's a relief :-D
Limey (2:51:41 PM) : seems they actually done some good casting for a change then
Yankee (2:52:21 PM) : well Ronny Yu is often referred to as a "fan in a director's chair"
Yankee (2:53:39 PM) : so it makes sense. I also heard people expressing shock that a lot of it got through the MPAA for an R rating, because it was gory and seemingly uneffected by the "pussy horror" of today.
Yankee (2:54:10 PM) : In other words the deaths, blood, etc is par with the 80's version of these franchises
Yankee (2:54:19 PM) : that's good
Limey (2:55:24 PM) : definitely. I just wonder what they've done to Freddy. is he Freddy, sadistic 'i'll joke bout your death' Freddy or 'i'm a clown with Freddy's face on' Freddy
Yankee (2:56:07 PM) : I heard he is pretty dark, but still pretty funny. I imagine they meant in the style of Dream Warriors
Yankee (2:56:55 PM) : he definitely doesn't seem like the Freddy's Dead clown we were subjected to.
Yankee (2:57:38 PM) : personally, if freddy was only as funny as the first two films, I would love him even more
Yankee (2:58:13 PM) : the third film is acceptable but he starts to cross that line. Oh and I hated the "TV Freddy"
Yankee (2:58:29 PM) : loved his line but hated the visual
Limey (3:00:16 PM) : I haven't seen TV Freddy since I was about 6 :-D it's out on DVD tho. might get it
Yankee (3:02:03 PM) : I don't mean the series, I mean how Freddy was shaped like a TV in Dream Warriors when he killed the one girl
Yankee (3:02:30 PM) : the series is cheesy but fun on its own level. something you can't take too seriously.
Yankee (3:03:15 PM) : it has nothing to do with the movies really
Yankee (3:03:38 PM) : and holy crap, is that really out on DVD there?
Limey (3:03:47 PM) : yes it really is :)
Yankee (3:04:17 PM) : shit! The whole 2 seasons? season 1? or just a best of?
Limey (3:05:05 PM) : not sure actually. I think it's a 2 disc thing...I haven't really paid much attention to it, but i've seen it in the shop and had a quick glance
Yankee (3:05:56 PM) : oh and for the TV scene, it would have been far better for Freddy to show up behind her grabbing her and saying the same lines, then just before shoving her head into the TV saying, "Welcome to Primetime bitch!"
Yankee (3:06:09 PM) : THAT would have ruled!
Yankee (3:06:32 PM) : but then again it's not so bad when compared to "Motorcycle Freddy"
Yankee (3:06:44 PM) : or Nintendo Freddy
Limey (3:07:08 PM) : lol, Nintendo Freddy..that's just...bad. I hated that
Yankee (3:08:33 PM) : you know, I would have just swallowed it like a good fan if they didn't have the kid bouncing around like a cartoon character in the real world. That's what pissed me off worse. That just ignores all the rules laid out in the previous movies.
Yankee (3:09:07 PM) : at least keeping the silly stuff in the dreams was plausible as we all know that Freddy is crazy.
Limey (3:09:46 PM) : yeah. and really, I think it could have been done well. I didn't mind comic book Freddy, and it's the same kinda concept
Yankee (3:10:16 PM) : and the wicked witch Freddy sucked BUT when you get past how bad it was, you can at least laugh at it. I love Englund's voice on scenes like that. it makes it hilarious.
Limey (3:10:49 PM) : lol, wicker witch Freddy was my first warning sign about the film tho :-D
Yankee (3:11:47 PM) : but Freddy's Dead was just one slap in our face after another. and why should the "death " he received at the end be any more real than the one in the first film? It was the same idea.
Yankee (3:12:29 PM) : and the very last scene was the worst closure I have EVER seen in a horror flick. even more so than the blair witch
Yankee (3:13:04 PM) : "Freddy's Dead. cool. time to go home." then music and credits
Yankee (3:13:11 PM) : AARRRGGHHH!!!!
Limey (3:13:26 PM) : my thoughts exactly :-D
Yankee (3:14:09 PM) : Blair witch at least did it to make you wonder. it was a mind fuck. Freddy's Dead was just lazy and stupid. The fucking 3D effects (which were done well) couldn't even save it
Yankee (3:15:07 PM) : its amazing how a franchise could hold both the best and worst horror movie of its era.
Yankee (3:15:25 PM) : actually I shouldn't say that.....
Yankee (3:16:04 PM) : I just remember that movie I told you about. the low budget vampire movie, do you remember that? I would rather watch Freddy's Dead then see that movie again.
Limey (3:17:05 PM) : lol :-D ya know, I really wonder what sorta reaction old Wes and John have when they watch movies in the franchises they created and see it going down hill. they could either be laughing their arses off, or be horrified
Limey (3:25:47 PM) : btw, doesn't Englund have probs with the usual "play a character long enough and you start to become it" with Freddy? I'm sure he had to keep the make up on for days at a time during New Nightmare cos applying it took so long, and it started to mess with him
